Youth Leader Program (Ages 12–14)

Our Youth Leader Program is a mentorship-based experience for older children who are interested in developing confidence, responsibility, communication skills, and leadership experience within the Brooklyn Trails community.

Youth Leaders participate alongside our teaching team through observation, guided participation, and collaborative learning experiences within the daily rhythm of camp. Participants engage in art-making, storytelling, nature exploration, games, and group activities while gaining exposure to child-centered community practices and outdoor education.

Youth Leaders may assist educators with simple supervised tasks such as preparing materials, organizing supplies, and helping set up activities and projects. Participants are encouraged to engage thoughtfully with the group, ask questions, reflect, and gradually build leadership skills in a supportive environment.

This program is educational and mentorship-based in nature and is not a staff or employment position. Youth Leaders remain under the direct supervision of adult staff at all times and are not responsible for supervising children, leading groups independently, or managing camper safety.

  • up to two weeks per summer

• Full or Half-day enrollment:

  • 9:00am–3:00pm

  • 9:00am–noon

• July 6–August 28

• Monday–Friday

This program is best suited for thoughtful, patient, and emotionally attuned children who genuinely enjoy being around younger kids and feel excited by the idea of contributing to a collaborative community. Ideal participants tend to be curious observers, creative thinkers, and children who are interested in learning through both participation and reflection.

Because the role is rooted in mentorship, collaboration, and group awareness, Youth Leaders should feel ready to engage respectfully within a mixed-age environment, follow guidance from adult educators, and participate with care, flexibility, and maturity.
